The City is inviting Winnipeggers to cool off in its facilities during regular operating hours, as extreme temperatures are forecasted over the next few days.
You are welcomed to use city facilities as ‘cooling areas’ for relief from the heat, read a book or magazine, and have access to drinking water.
City pools and spray pads are also great ways to cool down.
Other City facilities that can offer relief from the heat include:
- Leisure Centres
- Libraries
- Pools and Spray Pads
Safety Tips for Hot Weather
When using additional cooling appliances such as portable air conditioners, make sure not to overload electrical circuits as this can create a fire risk. Use dedicated circuits, and plug the unit directly into a receptacle without the use of extension cords.
Never leave people or pets unattended in parked vehicles even for a few minutes, as temperatures can rise quickly and create a dangerous environment.
Be sure to check on seniors and other vulnerable people, particularly those who may be isolated from friends and family, as well as young children and pets who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses during extreme temperatures.
