The City of Winnipeg has come to an agreement with Shaw Communications to provide free Wi-Fi access at more than 130 civic facilities.
“Whether it’s for work, play, or just staying in touch, feeling connected is an important part of our everyday lives,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Access to Wi-Fi is an important resource for residents no matter where they are in our city. With the support of Shaw, we can now offer free Wi-Fi at nearly all of our community centres, indoor pools, arenas, and libraries.”
Visitors can select the “ShawGuest” network name to access free Wi-Fi. You’ll have to accept the Terms of Use to continue.
Previously, Wi-Fi access was for Shaw customers only. The new agreement has opened up access to the entire public.
This isn’t the first time the City has explored free Wi-fi. On April 2018, they launched a year-long pilot project which provides free Wi-Fi to Winnipeg Transit passengers on 12 buses servicing various routes throughout the city. Once the pilot is over, Winnipeg Transit will gather data to determine if they should add the service to more buses.
