On July 21, 2018, at around 12:50 a.m. Winnipeg Police observed a vehicle being driving erratically on McGregor Street and Jarvis Avenue. The vehicle ran a stop sign and police began to follow.
The vehicle attempted to evade police so AIR1 was called to track the vehicle.
Here is actual footage from AIR1 tracking the vehicle as it drove through the city at a high rate of speed, running several red lights and stop signs.
The vehicle was finally stopped when it entered the north Perimeter Highway where officers deployed a tire deflation device. Before that it speeds of 160-170 km/h and was driving against oncoming traffic.
Officers discovered a female in the vehicle that had been kidnapped from her residence in the Weston neighbourhood. The male driver has been charged with:
- Driving While Ability Impaired
- Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample – Drug Evaluation
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
- Possession of a Weapon
- Assault
- Forcible Confinement
- Kidnapping
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
