On November 24, 2018, police officers spotted a large coyote while on patrol in the Rivergrove area.
The coyote was following elderly man and his small dog from a distance. Using an air horn on the police vehicle, the coyote was scared off.
AIR1 attended and later located a number of coyotes on a nearby golf course and notified the Wildlife Branch of Sustainable Development.
There has been a number of recent incidents of coyote sightings in the northeast areas of Winnipeg. Coyotes are known to be most active during sunrise and sunset hours. Dog owners are advised to keep dogs on a leash, and pick up and carry small dogs if confronted.
You can report any aggressive behaviour involving coyotes to the Wildlife Branch of Sustainable Development at 204-945-5221.
