Amazon has officially cancelled its 2021 Prime Day event in Canada.
Last year, Prime Day was moved to October due to COVID-19. Shoppers were hopeful that the same October event would happen this year, but it looks Amazon has decided to scrap the event all together.
An update on the Amazon Seller Central portal read “based on the impact of COVID-19 in Canada and the importance we place on protecting the health and safety of our employees, we will not hold Prime Day in Canada this year.”. Sellers that submitted deals for Prime Day will be cancelled.
Amazon Prime Day started in 2015 and typically takes place in July. It’s Amazons take on Black Friday and Boxing Day. Statistically, summer months will see a decrease in shopping. Amazon used the event to drive sales and Prime membership signups.
