Winnipeg-based EQ3 will open its 44,000-square-foot flagship store at the new CF Polo Park redevelopment on Friday, October 29, 2021. It will be in the former Sears location.
The new area at the mall will include office space and additional retail opportunities.
“As part of this redevelopment, we are also in the process of considering residential development in the area. This represents an incredible opportunity to increase density at the premier shopping district in Winnipeg, especially at a time when cities across Canada will be looking for opportunities to spark economic activity as we plan for long-term recovery from the pandemic,” said Josh Thomson, SVP of Development at Cadillac Fairview.
Sears at CF Polo Park closed its doors in December 2017. In total, Sears occupied 260,000 sq-ft – 80,000 on the upper level, 80,000 on the main level, and 100,000 in the basement.
The redevelopment of the area focuses on the 160,000 that occupied the upper and main levels. They hope the new space will attract multiple larger retail tenants (larger than 15,000 sq-ft) but smaller than a big-box stores like Sears. Office space will also occupy some of the spots.
The large EQ3 store is located on the lower level.
