Remember Zellers? The department store where the lowest price is the law? Well it’s coming back in 2023!
A decade after all Zellers locations were shut down, The Hudson’s Bay Co (which owns its rights) will debut a new e-commerce website dedicated to the Zellers brand. They will also a Zellers section within select Hudson’s Bay department stores across Canada in early 2023.
Soaring inflation rates have been driving consumers to discount retailers in search of lower prices. With the nostalgic Zellers discount brand, Hudson’s Bay looks to compete with other discount retailers such as Walmart and Dollarama.
The Zellers department store was founded in 1931 and acquired by Hudson’s Bay Co in 1978. The retail chain had over 350 locations in the late 1990s before losing ground to big box competitors such as Walmart.
