Did you get a suspicious looking letter in the mail from Gatestone & Co. demanding payment of a parking ticket on behalf of the City of Winnipeg? With all the scams going around, it’s easy to assume this is another play at your hard earned money. Unfortunately, the letters are legitimate.

As a precaution, you should contact the Winnipeg Parking Authority to verify the ticket.

Back in 2020, the City of Winnipeg made a call out seeking collection agencies to work with the city’s parking authority. At the time, there were more than 58,400 unpaid parking tickets and penalties valued at almost $6-million.

According to the solicitation document, the City selected Gatestone & Co. and is paying them $748,642.44 to collect all the unpaid tickets.

Gatestone has recently started sending out collection notices in the mail. If you have an unpaid ticket between 2016 and 2020, then you’ll see a similar letter that this Winnipeg Reddit user received:

The letter will simply indicate the amount owing for the unpaid ticket. For information on the infraction, you’ll have to contact the Winnipeg Parking Authority and they’ll be able to provide you information of the unpaid ticket.
