HMV is back! The HMV Shop will open at various Toys “R” Us locations in Winnipeg. It will sell CDs, DVDs, vinyl, record players and other collector items like posters, t-shirts and books.
What is HMV?
HMV was a prominent retailer of music, movies, and entertainment products. It was established in the United Kingdom in 1921. HMV was the prominent location for an extensive range of CDs, vinyl records, DVDs, and merchandise. However, as the digital era unfolded and online streaming platforms gained prominence, HMV faced challenges in adapting its traditional retail model to the evolving market demands. In 2017, the company filed for bankruptcy and closed all its stores, marking the end of an era for many Canadian music fans.
The HMV brand is currently owned by Putman Investments who purchased it in February 2019.
