Air Canada has announced that the basic fare for North American and sun flights will no longer include carry-on baggage. The move follows WestJet’s similar decision to no longer include carry-on baggage with its Ultrabasic fare.
Starting January 3, 2025, passengers who purchase the lowest-priced basic economy fare for North American and sun routes will only be allowed to bring one personal item. Passengers will have to pay for any other bags beyond the personal item.
What is a Personal Item on Air Canada Flights?
A personal item are items such as smaller bags, purses or a computer bag that can be stowed under the seat in front of you. Carry-on luggage are larger bags such as duffel bags and small roller bags that need to be stored in overhead compartments.
How much will carry-on baggage cost on Air Canada flights?
Carry-on bags will cost $35 for a first bag and $50 for a second. Any passenger who arrives at their gate with an ineligible carry-on will be required to check it and pay an elevated fee of $65.
