Nintendo has announced a delay in pre-orders for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada. Originally scheduled to begin on April 9, pre-orders are now postponed due to the ongoing tariff dispute between the United States and China. The company says it aims to align the Canadian launch with the yet-to-be-determined U.S. pre-order timeline.
Major Canadian retailers such as Walmart, GameStop, and Best Buy had already begun promoting the April 9 pre-order date, creating strong anticipation for Canadian gamers. However, with no confirmed date set in the U.S., they will now have to wait.
Prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 and its games have already raised concerns due to their steep costs. The standalone console is priced at $629 CAD, while a bundle including Mario Kart World is listed at $699 CAD. Mario Kart World itself is set to launch at $79.99 USD—approximately $113 CAD. The newly imposed tariffs could push prices even higher, making affordability a growing issue for Canadian gamers.
The release date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged.
