If you’re looking for summer work then you’ll want to consider applying for a seasonal position with the City of Winnipeg. They have a variety of jobs available and each one is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience working for the City.

Here are the positions available:


Seasonal Labourer

If you like spending time outside and are willing to do physically demanding work, consider applying to be a Seasonal Labourer. Some of the jobs you might be doing include weeding, grounds maintenance, and construction tasks such as street and sidewalk repairs.

A minimum Grade 10 education or equivalent is required and previous experience in landscaping or construction is an asset. The salary is $20.92 per hour. Applications will be accepted through the City’s careers page until March 30 or at one of their hiring halls (details below).

Summer Student Labourer

If you’re returning to school in the fall, you can apply for the Summer Student Labourer position work in a variety of areas. You could be assisting traffic control, cleaning worksite, or doing grounds maintenance.

The salary for this position is $16.62 an hour based on a 35 hour week or $15.22 and hour based on a 40 hour week. You must be available to start work on short notice and intend on returning to school at the end of season. The earliest start date is April 15 and the latest release date is September 15.

Gardener

  • Gardener 1 positions are anticipated to open the week of February 27

If you are familiar with commonly used landscape plants and shrubs and have experience in horticultural practices, you should consider applying. A Grade 12 or equivalent education is required and you should be prepared to work in all weather conditions.

The salary is $23.98 per hour. The position is anticipated to be posted the week of February 27 on the City’s careers page. You can apply online or at one of their hiring halls (details below).

Recreation Technicians & Wading Pool Attendants

If you enjoy helping children and making an impact in your community, you might be interested in a Recreation Technician or Wading Pool Attendant position. Every summer, we offer programming for preschool, children, and youth as well as operate several aquatic wading pool facilities. Around 200 Recreation Technicians and Wading Pool Attendants, in addition to existing employees, are needed to make sure everything runs smoothly.

The positions are ideal for students. A minimum of Grade 10 education is required; however, a Grade 12 or equivalent with experience is an asset. Emergency First Aid or higher and a valid CPR Level C certificate are also required.

There are five different job openings available under the Recreation Technician position, including Youth Leader, Adapted Services Leader, Children’s Leader, Pre-School Leader, and Building Supervisor and Facility Monitor. The salary for these jobs range from $15.22 to $17.93 per hour.

Wading Pool Attendants are responsible for the operation, supervision, and safety of a wading pool for children 12 years and under. The salary is $15.22 per hour.

Seasonal Meter Reader

Our summer meter reading program typically runs from the end of April to the beginning of September and we need a lot of seasonal staff to put it on.

As a Seasonal Meter Reader, you’ll be going door to door checking water meters. Consider applying if you have some domestic plumbing knowledge and customer service experience. A minimum one-year post-secondary education is required and the salary is $20.23 per hour, plus $1.30 per hour night shift premium. Applications will be accepted through the City’s careers page until March 7.

Office Support

In the Summer Student Clerical/Administrative role, you’d be providing general office work and administrative support in areas such as customer service, accounting, finance, and data analysis. This is an opportunity available specifically for students returning to school in the fall.

The salary is $16.62 an hour based on a 35 hour week or $15.22 and hour based on a 40 hour week. Summer Indigenous Employment Opportunity

In support of Oshki Annishinabe Nigaaniwak, the Indigenous Youth Strategy, Indigenous youth (under the age of 30) are encouraged to apply for the By-law Support Worker position.

As part of a team of By-law Enforcement Officers, you would be responsible for responding to complaints under the Neighbourhood Liveability By-Law and following up on compliance.

The salary is $16.84 per hour. Applications will be accepted through the City’s careers page until April 1.

Part-Time Work

If you’re more interested in part time work, we’re in the process of recruiting for 311 Customer Service Representatives. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the City and gain experience in their workforce.
