Guest conductor Yaron Traub, Music Director of the Orquesta de Valencia, directs a tour of Spain with french guitar virtuoso Gaëlle Solal. Gypsy castanets, flamenco guitar, jota dance, Iberian sunshine… an antidote to February’s fury. Manuel de Falla was the soul of Spanish music for half a century. But the other composers on this program equally carried the torch for their native country. Especially Joaquin Rodrigo, whose Concierto de Aranjuez supplied a languid Adagio that became the most popular guitar piece of our time. “The guitar does not play loud but far,” Igor Stravinsky once said. Let the virtuosity of guest artist Gaëlle Solal from France carry you away.
