Synonym Sound Presents: Shamik / “CI3” Album Tour

We’re honoured to launch Synonym Sound with Vancouver-based producer and beatboxer – Shamik Bilgi, on his winter album tour of CI3.

Shamik has performed in 15 countries, and toured with Tegan & Sara, Method Man & Redman, Bassnectar, Tanya Tagaq, DJ Q-Bert, DJ Kentaro, and George Benson. He has showcased at
numerous festivals including Shambhala, Bass Coast, Vancouver Island Musicfest, Edmonton Folkfest, Hillside, New Forms (Canada), Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Southbound, Sub Sonic (Australia), Sunburn, Mood Indigo (India), Electric Forest (USA), and Dubplate (Philippines). Shamik has also performed at TEDx, the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, and has a beatbox tutorial video on Youtube which has garnered over 125,000 views.

Shamik is the founder and curator of his own record label, Sensing Waves and host of the Sensing Airwaves podcast. He has released several albums including Channeling India vol 1- 3, an Indian sample-based beat project. His CI3 album has now reached 150,000 streams on Spotify. Shamik is also one half of the duo Too Attached with his sister Vivek Shraya. Too Attached’s newest album, Angry, was described by CBC as one of “Canada’s most incisive, radical and galvanizing albums.”

ACCESSIBILITY: Synonym Art, 211 Pacific Avenue
– The entrance requires two steps into the front door and multiple sets in and out at the back exit.
– The washroom is non-accessible, in the basement, with a steep set of stairs.
– Venue floor is flat with multiple areas for seating. Please arrive early or speak to a volunteer if you need more space!
– Synonym Art Consultation will be providing a Safer Spaces Representative
