UPDATE: Looks like CJOB‘s info was incorrect. @manitobahydro: Usage on July 17 was higher than a typical Sunday, but we did not break any records.
Manitobans set a new Manitoba Hydro record on Sunday using 3000 mega-watts of electricity, which is 13% higher than the previous record.
The high volume was due to the extreme heat the city has been getting and Air Conditioners running full blast in homes.
Manitoba Hydro is urging customers to turn their air conditioners down to prevent outages in their area. It is also recommended to unplug any non-essential electronic devices.
