Airport Crowds Originally uploaded by iansand

Jun Parreno, one of Winnipeg’s newest Filipino immigrants, has just witnessed how hectic western civilization can be.

Upon arriving to Canada for the first time, the Parreno family landed in Vancouver Airport where they undergoed a full customs search unpacking all their luggage. With the connecting flight to Winnipeg on its final boarding call the family became separated.

Jun Parreno told local media that he had thought his son was with his wife and the boy’s grandparents who had ran ahead. The wife in the other hand thought the boy was with his dad. On the plane, the family were all seated separately so they did not immediately realize the boy was missing. The airlines also did not notice the boy missing since younger children are not issued boarding passes, instead they sit on their parents laps.

Back at Vancouver airport, a security guard found the boy who spoke no English, wondering near the departure gates. Air Canada staff proceeded to notify the shocked parents, already in the air towards Winnipeg. The Vancouver Sun reports that the security guard found a Tagalog-speaking Air Canada agent who watched over the boy while his father flew 2,300 kilometers back to Vancouver to pick him up to rejoin their family in Winnipeg.

Air Canada staff kept the boy in their office and found toys for him while the boy waited for his father. “Air Canada took good care of him, I’m grateful.” Parreno told the daily Winnipeg Free Press upon arrival.

What a wonderful first day in Canada :)
