This Thursday is Thanksgiving for the U.S., which means that this Friday is Black Friday.
What is Black Friday? No, its not some Gothic cult or a racial monument. For those who don’t know, Black Friday is the BUSIEST shopping day of the year in the U.S.A. It happens annually the day after U.S. Thanksgiving (4th Thursday of November) This year Black Friday lands on November 27. I’ve never experienced it first hand, but from what I hear its madness – their version of Boxing Day on steroids.
I never really understood why us Canadians do Boxing Day over a ‘Black Friday’ type event (Day after Remembrance Day?) People are richer before Christmas, people want to shop before Christmas, and people would typically spend more money before Christmas.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m usually dead broke and neck deep in debt on December 26. The LAST thing on my mind is lining up all night in -40 degree weather to pick up 1 of 3 50″ plasmas at 50% off. But I guess that is one of the perks of living in Winnipeg. We have the luxury of being located so close to the American border that we can head down anytime we want for Black Friday shopping.
