Forgive the cheesy headline… Starting October 6, 2012 The Manitoba Museum will be the first Planetarium in the world to be equipped with the Digistar 5 All-Dome digital projection technology. The new $350,000 projection system will dramatically enhance the visitor experience using two wide-angle video projectors to cover the entire dome with a single seamless video image.
This is the Planetarium’s biggest technology upgrade in its 42-years of operation. A full line up of new shows will be announced approximately two weeks prior to the reopening. The Manitoba Museum’s Planetarium will be closed from September 4 to October 3 to install the new projectors. [MANITOBA MUSEUM]
