Paradise Restaurants

Hello Winnipeg, we are Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant. We’re passionate about food, but not about cooking. After growing tired of everyday chain restaurants, we began our search for the best hidden eateries the city has to offer. Ever wonder if that trendy new place is worth the money; or if that greasy burger joint lives up to all the hype? Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant!

Blondie’s Restaurant has been serving up burgers, big and small, for over 20 years at their Main Street location. We have been fans of this place for quite some time and we can say that every visit is interesting, unique and even unpredictable. One thing that’s always consistent though is the great tasting food, it’s a quality burger joint and that’s what keeps us going back for more.

You may have heard stories about this place, and about the owner’s fiery attitude. She does march to the beat of her own drum, but she makes a great burger while she’s doing it! One of the rules on her wall (yes, rules, written on the walls of the restaurant) states you should have a sense of humor if you’re going to eat there! So you’ve been warned, you’re also warned with rules like, “bringing your own drink results in a swift kick in the pants” or “ordering a milkshake when it’s busy results in death”. However, those milkshakes are really good and we’ve risked death a few times for a 7-scoop, real fruit shake!

It goes all the way up to the novelty 9 pound burger, which would easily feed a team, huge family or a brave individual looking for a challenge! Blondie’s also serves huge salads, hefty sandwiches and a wonderful homemade Beef Barley soup. Their fries are also homemade and make for perfect poutine-fries (the poutine here is easily a meal on its own). All of the menu items are not extremely cheap, but not exactly overpriced either and the portions are all large. A single-order of fries for example can be shared between two people as a side. The clubhouse salad and hot dog are both highly recommended, although it’s hard to come here and not order a burger!

This place gets mixed reviews, possibly because of its unique atmosphere but like we said, you can count on one thing: delicious, satisfying food! So next time you’re in the mood for a good burger, bring your appetite (and sense of humour) down to Blondie’s and give it a try!
