Cibo Waterfront Café

Hello Winnipeg, we are Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant. We’re passionate about food, but not about cooking. After growing tired of everyday chain restaurants, we began our search for the best hidden eateries the city has to offer. Ever wonder if that trendy new place is worth the money; or if that greasy burger joint lives up to all the hype? Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant!

Cibo Waterfront Café

Cibo Waterfront Café is located in a repurposed factory building behind the vibrantly colored Mere Hotel. Being located on Waterfront Drive guarantees a beautiful view for patrons and the table set-up at Cibo really takes advantage of it. Of course, with their location, parking can also be an issue but there is a surface lot nearby if no street parking can be found.

The atmosphere in Cibo Waterfront Café is really relaxed, with their high ceilings, low lighting, simple décor and very comfortable chairs. The menu is described as locally sourced with a Mediterranean inspiration. It begins with the must-try Arancini (fried risotto balls stuffed with herbs and cheese), a few platters like Olives & Cheese or an Antipasto platter and a number of soups and salads. The Bruschetta has its own section of the menu, and for good reason. An order is made up of three choices and there are seven combinations to choose from. We tried the buffalo mozzarella, tomato, basil combo and the apple, brie and balsamic combo. Both were good, but the apple, brie, balsamic was amazing and had us wishing we ordered more of it!

Dinner options consist of some pastas, pizzas and grilled sandwiches as well as a few items off the grill, including a steak and prawns meal, a steak sandwich and a salmon dish. The pizza choices sound interesting with options like Salmon and Pesto, Pear and Prosciutto or Drunk Mushroom and Pecorino. After viewing the website, we learned they also serve breakfast till 11 am. We can’t speak for the breakfast meals, but the views would be incredible during the daytime! We ordered the steak meals with soup and salad. Overall, the appetizers were amazing and the steaks could have been better but the experience as a whole was perfect. This is a great place for a date or a quiet dinner with friends and family.
