Hello Winnipeg, we are Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant. We’re passionate about food, but not about cooking. After growing tired of everyday chain restaurants, we began our search for the best hidden eateries the city has to offer. Ever wonder if that trendy new place is worth the money; or if that greasy burger joint lives up to all the hype? Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant!
The Red Ember Pizza Truck

We recently tried out The Red Ember, a wood-fire pizza truck that serves personal sized pizzas, made with only local Manitoban ingredients.
The flour for their crust comes from Elie, the vegetables are grown in their own garden and the cheese is made from Manitoba milk. Their pizza tastes very fresh, and it’s easy to see why. During the lunch hour, the line-up is pretty long but moves surprisingly quick.
The Red Ember’s menu is constantly changing, but with at least five options, it’s fairly easy to find a pizza for every taste. On our visit, their main special was the Kraut-za, a German inspired pizza with bratwurst sausage, sauerkraut, potatoes and a honey dijon sauce. It was a cheesy, zesty and unique creation that we knew we wouldn’t find anywhere else.

These pizzas are a little larger than your average personal size, and with generous amounts of local mozzarella cheese and toppings; they make for a really filling lunch. They also make for a pretty messy lunch, and while a fork and knife would have helped, we still managed without them.
Now that summer is coming to an end, you probably won’t be seeing as many food trucks, but you can check out The Red Ember’s Twitter account anytime to see updates on their specials and where they’re parked.
