The International Olympic Committee has awarded Tokyo the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. The final 3 candidates were Tokyo, Istanbul and Madrid. Madrid was eliminated earlier after an initial tie with Istanbul, then Tokyo defeated Istanbul 60-36 in the final round of secret voting.
The last time Japan hosted the Olympics was in 1964 which marked Japan’s reemergence from destruction and defeat in World War II.
The games will take place from July 24 – August 9, 2020.
