Bright and stylish branding makes this place look like it belongs to a chain of restaurants, but it is actually locally owned and has been thriving since opening less than a year ago.
A short and simple menu of Greek favorites keeps this place moving quickly, without sacrificing taste or quality. Every item on their menu is home-made, right down to the dressings and sauces. Pride in ownership really shows here, with the cheerful owner being on-site more often than not.
Main dishes to choose from include Gyros (chicken or pork), Moussaka (an eggplant and ground beef based casserole), Tiropita (feta cheese pastry) and Spanakopita (spinach and feta pastry). The Gyros are made-to-order and very satisfying. The tzatziki sauce must be made with extra garlic and for a sauce that often falls to the background; this one’s taste really comes through and complements the other ingredients. The Moussaka was hearty, filling and tasty and although the side salad was nice to have, it was a lot of food to finish! The Hot Greek Salad makes for a lighter, yet still satisfying lunch. It is a larger portion of their Greek salad, topped with pieces of chicken.
Sides to choose from include Greek salad, traditional lemon potatoes and homemade fries. The lemon potatoes get glowing reviews from everyone who tries them. A perk about their side dishes is the option to choose half salad/half fries. Greek fries are also available, which are topped with feta cheese, oregano and a blend of other seasonings.
Gyro Sensations is only open during the weekdays, and definitely caters to the downtown customers looking for a good lunch. If you work downtown, or happen to be downtown and hungry; give this place a try!
