Canada and the Philippines has agreed to double the number of direct flights allowed to and from the Philippines. Canada can now have up to 14 direct flights a week (previously 7).
The Winnipeg Airports Authority is hoping that at least one of those direct flights will come from Winnipeg. 35,000 people travel between Winnipeg and Manila every year.
Manila is that largest international market next to popular sun spots such as the Caribbean and Mexico. Winnipeg also has one of the largest Filipino communities in Canada.
Currently, the most popular flight path to Manila from Winnipeg is through Vancouver. A direct flight from Winnipeg to Manila would take approximately 15 hours… that’s a LONG TIME on a plane! [CBC]
