Downtown Winnipeg will be hosting a new Drive-In outdoor movie series in the Sports, Hospitality, and Entertainment District (SHED).
It’ll be similar to Movies in the Park and Movies on Memorial, but you’ll have the option to sit in your car Drive-In style.
The screenings take place at MPI’s cityplace parking lot every Saturday at sundown. It will run from August 9 to August 30, 2014.
Screenings will be free for people arriving on bikes, transit, or on foot. Those wanting the full drive-in experience will have to pay $10 to reserve a car spot.
“For those who grew up in the era when drive-ins were the place to go see a movie, this is a superb way to reconnect with our City’s downtown through a family entertainment favourite,” said City of Winnipeg’s Mayor Sam Katz. “The Drive-In experience is a nostalgic look back at such a fun time and I encourage citizens to attend an iconic entertainment activity in our new emerging SHED.”
Movies include:
- Saturday, August 9: The Dark Knight
- Saturday, August 16: Zoolander
- Saturday, August 23: The Avengers
- Saturday, August 30: The Matrix or Terminator 2
The Drive-In site will be divided into three sections, providing options for seating, bicycle parking and automobiles on a first-come, first-serve basis.
