Marion Street Eatery

Hello Winnipeg, we are Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant. We’re passionate about food, but not about cooking. After growing tired of everyday chain restaurants, we began our search for the best hidden eateries the city has to offer. Ever wonder if that trendy new place is worth the money; or if that greasy burger joint lives up to all the hype? Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant!

Marion Street Eatery

The Marion Street Eatery is a quaint restaurant, serving up traditional comfort foods with their own twist. With a focus on simplicity, their chef created a short menu packed full of quality choices. We have been hearing a lot of great things about this restaurant and were excited to try it out.

Once you enter Marion Street Eatery, the warm and inviting atmosphere can easily make you forget that you’re actually inside the Marion Hotel. They’ve really made the space their own. The menu begins with salads and appetizers like mushroom caps with Italian sausage, shrimp tacos, bruschetta and meatballs with a trio of sauces. They also have a Manitoban version of lettuce wraps, made with wild rice, local vegetables, sunflower seeds and hoisin sauce. We tried the roasted beet salad with balsamic ginger dressing and it was delicious.

Entrée choices include a number of burgers and sandwiches, with unique toppings and homemade sauces. A section of the menu called Hearty Comforts features items like bison chili, their increasingly famous mac & cheese and an individual sized stuffed meatloaf.

We ordered the Cuban sandwich, with roasted pork, maple ham, spicy Dijon and Gruyere cheese and the Extreme BLT which is the usual, but with prosciutto and spicy pancetta added along with the bacon. These unique sandwiches were fresh, filling and full of flavor. The fries at Marion Street Eatery are homemade and would make for perfect poutine fries. Lastly, we had to try the mac & cheese because of all the hype we’d been hearing about it. This dish is baked with broccoli and bacon, topped with a pretzel topping. It’s hard to come by a good mac & cheese and this one didn’t dry out or disappoint; it was quite good!

The Marion Street Eatery is a perfect example of the kind of restaurant that can probably satisfy anyone’s taste. Simple, classic and homemade choices with a focus on quality and decent prices!
