Mardi Gras will once again be parading through Winnipeg on February 13th and 14th, 2015, marking the event’s tenth year in the city! We were excited to be invited to A Taste of Mardi Gras, which offers up a preview of the food and flavors featured at this year’s event.
Winnipeg Mardi Gras will be held at the RBC Convention Centre and while it is always filled with colorful and extravagant costumes, this year features two very different themes on each night. Attendees can dress up as zombies on the Friday night and be a part of what is said to be the largest zombie party to ever hit Winnipeg. Saturday takes a more romantic turn, as it lands on Valentine’s Day. Couples can celebrate together and singles have the choice to wear a red heart on their sleeve, provided by the event staff, to let others know they are ready to mingle.
A Taste of Mardi Gras provided us with a generous sample of the food and signature drinks that would be served at the event in February and we enjoyed everything we tried. The Chicken and Andouille Creole on Black Eyed Pea Rice and the Bourbon Street Creole-style Jambalaya were similar in flavor and pleasant to taste. Their flavorful Barbeque Pulled Pork Po’Boy was hearty and would be a great meal to end off the night. The Louisiana Style Shrimp with Pasta was filled with jumbo shrimp and would certainly be a hit for the seafood lover. In fact, with all of the fresh jumbo shrimp and oysters available, any of these dishes would be a hit for seafood lovers! As for the drinks, be sure to try the signature Mardi Gras Hurricaine and visit the Fireball Shot Bar for a shot of chilled cinnamon whisky.
We had a great time at A Taste of Mardi Gras and are looking forward to the event itself in February.
