Canada Post is temporarily suspending the Community Mailbox Program which converts mail service from a door-to-door mail system to delivery to a community mailbox.
Three Winnipeg neighbourhoods have already been converted. A few more were scheduled for November and December. However, those Winnipeggers won’t have to endure the cold walk to community mailboxes (for this winter at least)
Customer who were set to begin receiving their mail and parcels in their boxes in October will continue to do so. Anyone else will not be converted.
Canada Post will work collaboratively with the Government of Canada to determine the best path forward given the ongoing challenges faced by the Canadian postal system.
One of Justin Trudeau’s election promises was to keep door-to-door delivery.
