Hello Winnipeg, we are Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant. We’re passionate about food, but not about cooking. After growing tired of everyday chain restaurants, we began our search for the best hidden eateries the city has to offer. Ever wonder if that trendy new place is worth the money; or if that greasy burger joint lives up to all the hype? Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant!
The Cornerstone Bar and Restaurant
The Cornerstone Bar & Restaurant has been operating out of the recently overhauled Papa George’s location on Osborne Street and River Avenue since earlier this year.
First of all, the place looks nothing like it used to. The décor is very simple, with a stand-out bar area that will capture your attention as soon as you walk in. This restaurant is very loud when it’s busy and is not the place for a quiet evening. It is however, a great place to socialize over drinks and appetizers.
Aside from appearances, the bar features a unique self-contained beer draft system, which guarantees perfectly chilled beer at every pour. They also serve a variety of unique and premium cocktails, like The Country Mile (bourbon, goji-green tea syrup, mint, lemon, cherry bitters and soda) or The Village (honey, lavender, star anise infused syrup, rye, sweet vermouth, bitters).

Appetizers include steak bites, chicken wings and the must-try cheese platter. This ever-changing platter features three different types of cheese, a scoop of bacon jam, tomato jam, candied walnuts and crackers. The bacon jam is amazing. For $14.00, the appetizer looks small but is definitely enough for two people to share.
A variety of burgers, sandwiches and other hearty dinners are available if you’re looking for a full meal. The Chicken n Dumplings, made with gnocchi, bacon and kale is said to be a hit, as well as the ever-changing pasta feature or omelet feature. On our visit, we ordered the Steak Sandwich. Topped with sautéed mushrooms, chimichurri, a fried egg and served with homemade fries; this tenderloin steak sandwich is worth coming back for.
The Cornerstone Bar & Restaurant is one to try this summer!
