NewLeaf: Fly from Winnipeg to Edmonton for only $99!

The NewLeaf Travel Company, which specializes in cheap discount flights, has added a new non-stop flight from Winnipeg to Edmonton. The flight will cost $99 with all fees and taxes included.


Your fare gets you the two essentials: a seat and a seatbelt. The rest is up to you. Ultra low cost means you pay extra for printing a boarding pass, carry-on luggage or drinks. A carry-on luggage will cost you $25.

The new Winnipeg to Edmonton route will run on Thursdays and Sundays beginning August 21, 2016.

To put it in perspective, a road trip from Winnipeg to Edmonton is 1,305km one-way. The 2014 fuel consumption guide states the average vehicle will consume 5.9 litres per 100kms, so it will take you around 77 litres to get to Edmonton (not including various stops and detours). At $1 litre, you’re looking at $77 to drive to Edmonton vs $99 to fly.

However, make sure to factor in cost savings for car pooling (multiple people splitting the gas bill). Also, if you drive to Edmonton, you won’t have to rent a car when you get there.
