Over 1,600 people have registered to volunteer to help fight the flooding. These are locals too, this doesn’t include the groups who have already been helping protect the areas outside the city itself.

CBCnews.ca reports that some volunteer groups, along with U of M students, include children as young as seven. Seven years old! They made a point that some of these kids weren’t even around during the flood in 97 and they weren’t kidding. It’s another fine example of Winnipegerianites doing what we do best… combining our powers in the face of a greater trial.

This morning, the city will have teams monitoring the river’s levels and ice conditions. Based on what they find, they may end up breaking the ice itself or opening the flood gates around the city.
