Samples of Culex tarsalis mosquitoes from various parts of Manitoba, including Winnipeg, have been tested and have been found to be infected with the West Nile Virus.
So far this year, there have been no reported cases of West Nile in Manitoba, but exposure to West Nile will increase over the next few weeks with the warm weather we’re expecting.
You can decrease the risk by reducing still standing water around your home, wear light, loose clothing, or staying inside during peak mosquito hours. ( Doesn’t it suck how we finally get the summer we’ve been waiting for, and we’re being asked to stay inside to avoid mosquitoes. That BITES! -No pun intended =P )
