In The Zone is a 3 day event that covers dance workshops with celebrity choreographers April Rodriguez, Jun Quemado, Philip Geniza, Erik Saradpon, Ellen Kim and highlights local Winnipeg Hip Hop dance scene. Sikat took top honors for the Large Group Category and Synergy took 1st in the Small Group Category.
Here are the winners:
Large Group Category
1st – Sikat Dance Company
2nd – Dummy Squad
3rd – Synsify
Small Group Category
1st – Synergy
2nd – Marquis
3rd – Tech Run The event kick started on Friday with a hip hop group competition, there was a total of 12 individual group performances that day. All teams provided their own music and their own unique routines. On Saturday, I attended the evening workshop session where April and Jun were the choreographers. Both choreographers had different practices in teaching but both sessions the students were able to keep up and follow along.
Saturday evening, they held a break-dance competition at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. The break-dance competition was more competitive and intense as the battles had an in your face attitude which added to the excitement. The winner of the competition was PPC who battled Flow Fanatics in the finals.
