Who ever said print was dead? Metro International, the Swedish-based daily newspaper chain will be launching it’s first Winnipeg issue on Monday, April 4, 2011. It is a freesheet, meaning that distribution is free, with revenues thus generated entirely through advertising. Metro Daily is also offered in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Halifax and Ottawa.

You will now see green newspaper boxes along side the red and blue Winnipeg Sun and Winnipeg Free Press boxes. The papers will be distributed downtown, along bus routes, university and college campuses, and large businesses.

The paper will employ 15 local staff and evenly focus on local, national, and international topics geared towards “youthful, active metropolitan residents,”.
