GEARING UP FOR MEC’S 3RD ANNUAL BIKEFEST
Fun and Education for Cyclists at The Forks

Winnipeg MB (July 5, 2011) — For the third year in a row, Mountain Equipment Co-op Winnipeg is putting on BikeFest, a dynamic day of free events at The Forks designed to celebrate and educate all things cycling:

MEC BikeFest
The Forks Market Plaza
Saturday, July 16th from 11:00am to 4:00pm
All events are free!
BYOB! (that means bike!)

WHAT YOU CAN DO THERE:

MEC Bike Photo Booth: Are you Winnipeg’s ‘next bicycle star’? Get your picture taken with your bike, download your photo from www.mecphotobooth.ca and be entered to win great prizes in several categories.

Bike Polo Matches: Take in scheduled matches between local polo teams throughout the day. There will also be plenty of chances for you to try it out yourself during impromptu pick-up games. Hosted by Winnipeg Bike Polo.

Bicycle Maintenance: Got questions about fixing your bike?? A professional bicycle mechanic will lead two half hour information sessions on proper maintenance and repair, at the main stage underneath the canopy. There will also be stands and tools available throughout the day so people can fix their own bike with the help of a mechanic.

BikeSwap: Buy, sell or trade your used bikes, cycling clothes or bike accessories at the MEC BikeSwap. Sellers can contact jfalk@mec.ca to reserve your free table.

MEC Marketplace: Mountain Equipment Co-op will have a mini-store set up at the Forks to sell cycling related products.

Displays and Demos: Take in bike demonstrations, and displays by Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Alternative Transportation Winnipeg, product vendors, and others.

Bicycle Valet Service: Bike to the Future is offering a bicycle valet service. Riders can leave their bikes in a secured parking lot, rather than locking it up unattended.

Concerts: The West End Cultural Centre is putting on concerts throughout the day on the main stage underneath the canopy. The line-up will feature plenty of great music by local musicians, including Magnum K.I. and Haunter.

Yoga: If you’ve always wanted to try yoga, here’s your chance. Participate in free yoga sessions offered by Moksha Yoga Winnipeg.
