Winnipeggers with LTE enabled smart phones can finally take advantage of Rogers’ claim to Canada’s fastest wireless internet. The rest of Canada has had Rogers LTE for quite some time now. Winnipeg was expected to get LTE before the end of 2012, but Rogers failed to meet that deadline.
LTE in Manitoba will be available as of June 17, 2013 in Winnipeg, Brandon, Victoria Beach and Grand Beach. Through a network sharing agreement with MTS, Rogers will deploy LTE to more than 90 per cent of Manitoba’s population over the next five years. Selkirk, Steinbach and Ste. Anne will receive Rogers LTE this summer.
As of 8:45am on June 17, my Rogers iPhone 5 still has the hideous 3G symbol on the top left hand corner of the screen, though a few Winnipeg users have already reported LTE on their devices.
Update 9:11am: Looks like Rogers just pushed the update to the cell tower I’m on. My iPhone 5 now shows LTE.
