The Minnesota Wild defeated the Winnipeg Jets 1-0 last night at MTS Centre.

It was the Jets’ first preseason game and it was a thriller. Winnipeg fans got their first look at an NHL 3 on 3 overtime which was introduced by the NHL back in June.

Back in June, the NHL announced that regular-season games tied at the end of regulation would play a five-minute 3-on-3 extra period. Previously, the League played 4-on-4 overtime.

Regular-season games tied at the end of overtime will continue to be decided by a shootout.

The overtime period last night was exciting, but the ending wasn’t so great. Matt Dumba beat Connor Hellebuyck with only 50 seconds left in OT to beat the Jets’ 1-0 loss.

The Jets’ next preseason game is Wednesday is Edmonton against the Oilers. They’ll return home on Friday to host the Oilers.
