Mayor Brian Bowman has introduced a new Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership award that will present five (5), $1,000 scholarships to recognize students who have demonstrated consistent and outstanding dedication to solving a community problem or making their community a better place to live.
The scholarship rewards the achievements of Winnipeg’s future leaders and supports them on the path towards their educational and career goals. Community leadership can be demonstrated through activities that promote racial and social inclusion, drive reconciliation, encourage environmental stewardship, and support or empower Winnipeg’s less fortunate.
“I am very excited to recognize high school students who have demonstrated a commitment to improving and strengthening our community,” said Mayor Bowman. “It is important to acknowledge, reward, and support the important work young people do for our community especially as they grow into our future leaders.”
Grade twelve students across Winnipeg are encouraged to apply. Applicants must complete and submit an application form, found on the Mayor’s website, by May 20, 2016. Only application forms completed in full will be considered.
