Assiniboine Park Zoo

In celebration of our great nation, Assiniboine Park Zoo along with our partners, Parks Canada and Boston Pizza, will host Canada Day festivities on July long weekend. Friday, July 1, through Sunday, July 3, visitors can enjoy a festive atmosphere, with extra activities – the perfect way to celebrate Canadian Pride!


  • Appearances by Winston: Canada Day kicks off with special appearances by Winston, the Zoo’s polar bear mascot.
    Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Boston Pizza Street Team: Get a temporary tattoo with Boston’s Pizza street team and grab a photo with Lionel, their mascot.

  • Art Chalk: Visitors can show their Canadian Pride and artsy side by using sidewalk chalk to draw their favourite things about being Canadian.

  • ‘Dinosaurs of the Deep’ Book Signing with Author Larry Verstraete: Visitors can stop by the Dino-Store and purchase a copy of Dinosaurs of the Deep where you can discover prehistoric marine life. Award-winning writer and educator, Larry Verstraete will be on-site to sign copies.

  • Parks Canada Activities: Parks Canada will be offering a fun photo op at the oTENTik! Grab some props, smile and transport yourself to a National Park or National Historic site while using their “Green Screen Photo Booth.” Zoo visitors can learn with the Parks Canada outreach education team throughout July and August.
