Since 1995, alcohol has been banned from Manitoba campgrounds during the May Long Weekend to reduce alcohol related incidents. That ban has now been lifted.

The ban was originally implemented due to the amount of alcohol related incidents during the busiest camping weekend in Manitoba. However, due to a significant reduction of incidents, the province has decided to lift the ban.

“We know Manitobans love to get out and enjoy the great outdoors whenever possible, so we want to make this change and allow adults the opportunity to responsibly enjoy their experience at our provincial parks,” said Sustainable Development Minister Rochelle Squires.

The Long Weekend runs from May 19 – 21 this year.
