UPDATE: Since writing this article, Winnipeg Costco’s have now stated that the new policy will not be implemented immediately… it will be a slow rollout that begins on May 4, 2020. To be safe, we still recommend bringing a mask with you to Costco as its not known when any locations will begin requiring them.

Starting Monday, May 4, 2020, all Costco shoppers, including ones in Winnipeg, will be required to wear face masks. They will be the first major retailer to have this requirement.

The mask must cover their mouth and nose at all times while inside the store. This can be a store-bought mask, or a home made mask. Remember: The use of a mask should not be used as a substitute for social distancing. Even with a mask on, continue to be at least 2 metres away from everyone else.

The requirement will not apply to children under the age of 2 or to anyone who is unable to wear a mask or face covering due to medical conditions.

Stay safe Winnipeg!
