The former Keg location in downtown Winnipeg won’t be sitting empty for long. A new arcade bar concept is coming to the historic Garry Street building, with GRETA Arcade Bar confirming plans to open its first Winnipeg location later this year.
GRETA will take over the former Keg space on Garry Street, which closed at the end of July. The new venue is expected to bring a mix of classic and modern arcade games, street food, cocktails and nightlife to downtown Winnipeg.
GRETA Winnipeg Expected to Open in November 2026
Work is already underway to transform the former Keg space into GRETA, with the company targeting an November 2026 opening.
One of the priorities will be maintaining the character of the existing building. DeCock said the company wants to preserve as much of the heritage building as possible while adding GRETA’s colourful and interactive design.
The Winnipeg location is also expected to feature a patio, giving customers another option during the warmer months.
GRETA also plans to get involved in Winnipeg’s food scene before the official opening. The company says it will participate in Le Burger Week Winnipeg from September 1 to 7, 2026.
What is GRETA Arcade Bar?
GRETA describes itself as an arcade bar that combines 50+ modern and classic arcade games, craft cocktails, globally inspired street food and entertainment under one roof.
The concept is designed primarily as an adults-only nightlife and entertainment destination, with games ranging from nostalgic classics to newer attractions. Its lineup can include games such as Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong, Tetris, air hockey, Skee-Ball and Pop-A-Shot basketball.
Rather than being a traditional arcade, GRETA combines the games with a full food and beverage experience. Its menu features street food inspired by different parts of the world, along with cocktails, beer and other drinks.
The company currently operates locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto, making Winnipeg its fifth Canadian market.
GRETA’s original location opened in Calgary in November 2018. The concept was founded by Chris DeCock after he was inspired by the food truck and entertainment scenes he experienced while travelling in the southern United States.
Since then, GRETA has expanded beyond its Calgary roots, building a Canadian arcade-bar brand that combines food, drinks, games and nightlife. The company currently has four operating locations in Canada, with Winnipeg becoming its fifth.
A New Entertainment Option for Downtown Winnipeg
The arrival of GRETA will add another entertainment-focused option to downtown Winnipeg, offering something different from the traditional restaurant and bar experience.
The large former Keg space should give GRETA plenty of room to create the kind of interactive environment found at its other locations.
With renovations now underway, the company is hoping to open the doors to GRETA Winnipeg in November 2026.
The opening will also mark another change for the former Keg location. The Keg itself is not leaving Winnipeg, with the restaurant company planning to move its downtown operation to a new location on Donald Street later this year.
