A Winnipeg folk group called Wyrd Sisters have a lost a law suit against Warner Brothers for using their name in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.
The band was suing Warner Brothers for 40-million and also tried to stop the movie from being released. Both suits failed and both parties ended up settling. The terms of the settlement weren’t released.
I love and support Winnipeg bands – but the Wyrd Sisters had to have seen this coming. These multi-billion dollar movie companies get these legal threats all the time and their legal departments are all top notch. There was really no chance of them winning.
On a positive note, this law suit has earned the band a lot of publicity, so lets hope something good comes out of it.
