The last long weekend of the summer is here. Here’s a list of what’s open and what’s closed for the September Labour Day long weekend in Winnipeg.
Labour Day is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. In Canada and the United States, it is celebrated on the first Monday of September and considered the official end of the summer holiday for most of the respective countries, as public school and university students return to school that week or the following week.
In 2026, Labour Day falls on Monday, September 7.

Outdoor pools, wading pools, and spray pads
Select City of Winnipeg outdoor aquatic facilities will remain open on Monday, September 7, weather permitting.
The following outdoor pools are scheduled to remain open through Monday, September 7:

- Kildonan Park
- St. Vital
- Transcona Aquatic Park
- Westdale
Pool hours vary by location. For example, Kildonan Park Pool is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., while St. Vital Pool is open from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both are scheduled to remain open on Labour Day.
The following wading pools are scheduled to remain open on Monday, September 7:

- McKittrick Park
All 30 City of Winnipeg spray pads are scheduled to remain open through Monday, September 7. Individual spray pad hours vary by location, with many operating from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
