Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
Shopping Malls
Most major Winnipeg shopping centres will be open with reduced holiday hours on Wednesday, September 30. Individual stores and restaurants inside the malls may have different hours.

Libraries
All Winnipeg Public Libraries will be closed on Wednesday, September 30.

Indoor Pools
All indoor pools will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, with the exception of:
- Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex – Open 2:00pm – 6:00pm
- Margaret Grant Pool – Open 1:00pm – 5:00pm
- Pan Am Pool – Open 10:00am – 2:00pm
Fitness & Leisure Centres
All fitness and leisure centres will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, with the exception of:
- Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex – Open 2:00pm – 6:00pm
- Pan Am Pool – Open 10:00am – 2:00pm
The City of Winnipeg’s 2026 holiday schedule confirms these reduced hours for the three indoor pools and the two recreation facilities that will remain open.
Animal Services
The Animal Services Agency will be closed on Wednesday, September 30.
Online services, including purchasing or renewing a pet licence and viewing dogs available for adoption, remain available.
Cemeteries
Brookside, Transcona, and St. Vital cemeteries will remain open from 8:00am to 9:00pm.
The Administration Office at Brookside Cemetery will be closed on Wednesday, September 30.
Golf Courses
Canoe Club, Crescent Drive, Kildonan Park, and Windsor Park golf courses will remain open on Wednesday, September 30, weather permitting.
