Can I vote at any advance voting location?
Yes. Eligible Winnipeg voters can vote at any advance voting location during the advance voting period. This means you can choose a location that is convenient for you, even if it is outside your council ward.
This is different from Election Day, when voters must vote at a designated voting location in their council ward.
What do I need to vote?
Voters should bring their identification when they go to vote. The City also recommends checking the voters list ahead of time.
Being on the voters list means you are registered to vote and will receive a voter’s notice. If you are not on the list, you can still vote if you meet the eligibility requirements, but you will need to take an oath and provide identification.
Who can vote in the 2026 Winnipeg municipal election?
To vote in the 2026 Municipal Council and School Boards Election, you must be eligible to vote under Manitoba’s municipal election requirements.
Voters will cast ballots for Mayor, City Councillor and School Trustee, depending on their residence and school division.
Voting by mail with a sealed envelope ballot
If you cannot vote in person, you may be eligible to vote using a sealed envelope ballot.
The City permits sealed envelope ballots for eligible voters who are unable to attend a voting station because of a disability, including health risks, are providing care to someone who cannot leave their home, or expect to be absent from Winnipeg during Election Day and the advance voting period. It is also available in situations where a voter will be at a location so far from their voting location that voting in person is not reasonably possible.
Applications can be submitted online, by mail, by email or in person.
Applications submitted online, by mail or email can be made until Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. In-person applications can also be made at the City Clerk’s Department until October 25 at 4:30 p.m.
City Clerk’s Department
Susan A. Thompson Building, Main Floor
510 Main Street
Winnipeg, MB R3B 1B9
Completed sealed envelope ballots must be returned to the Senior Election Official at the City Clerk’s Department before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28. They cannot be returned at a regular voting location.
When is Election Day?
Election Day is Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Voting locations will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
With advance voting now underway, Winnipeg voters have more than three weeks to cast their ballots before Election Day. The City says there are 174 advance voting locations planned throughout Winnipeg during the election period.
