The great debate between Real and Artificial Christmas Trees has been going on for ages.
Real vs. Artificial Christmas Trees:
Artificial Trees:
- Environmental friendly. You don’t have to cut down a tree.
- Cost. Artificial trees can be reused every year.
- Convenience. Collapsible and easy to store. No need to Haul a huge tree through your door.
- Maintenance. Doesn’t need watering and no need to pick up pine needles from the floor.
However, going artificial does have its drawbacks. Many experts believe artificial trees actually have a greater negative environmental impact.
Today’s artificial trees are typically manufactured with metal and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a non-biodegradable, petroleum-derived plastic. Also, many of these trees are imported from China giving a negative impact to the local economy.
Winnipeg offers a Christmas tree recycling program that keeps trees out of our landfills. Last year, the program collected 14,500 trees.
