TOP 5 PLACES TO CELEBRATE DOMINION (CANADA) DAY

Today marks the 25th Canada Day in history. ‘What?’ you ask? Well, before these last 25 years, it was called Dominion Day (ask your parents about the story on that one).

Now, there’s no shortage of things to do this July 1st, but here we will highlight the biggest events in Winnipeg. Hit ‘read more’ to check out our list. Oh, one last thing. All of these events are FREE!!!

Canad Day Picnic In The Park

Address: Assiniboine Park, Lyric Theatre
Hours: 12noon – 10:30pm

This party lasts all day and is great for families with young ones. There are games and activities for the kids and fireworks at dusk (bring earplugs for the little ones). There is also no shortage of food vendors at the park so be sure to try the goodies.

Canada Day at Lower Fort Garry

Address: Lower Fort Farry Historical Site
Hours: 9:30am – 3:15pm

Another great day of events and activities for families featuring Village Green English Country Dancers, Royal Scottish Country Dancers, Whirl-Away Westerners Square Dancers, Glenaura Pipes and Drums and the Oak Hammock Bog Boys. Best of all? A CANADA FLAG BIRTHDAY CAKE AT 3PM!!!

Canada Day at the Forks

Address: The Forks Market
Hours: All day with fireworks at 11PM

This party is targeted towards the fans of live music with loads of home-grown talent and even the winners of Hot 103’s Locals Only contest where the winner gets to perform on stage in front of 1000s. This is sure to be a great time had by all.

Osborne Village Street Festival

Address: Osborne Street starting at River Avenue

For those of you lucky enough to have Monday off as well as Tuesday, you can start celebrating early with the Osborne Village Canada Day Street Festival. This festival is 2 days of entertainment, diplays and booths set up in the Village. Every patio will be packed so be sure to show up early if you want to celebrate this great country all day!

Your Backyard

Address: The backyard of wherever you live!!!

This is sometimes the greatest party of all. Invite all of your friends over, throw some steaks (or carrots for the vegans) on the grill and relax. This is a day off for a lot of people so why bother with crowds? Sit back, enjoy the company and maybe even fire off a couple Roman candles in your yard. (Access Winnipeg disclaimer…don’t blow your fingers off).
