Canada Day 2016: Whats Open and Whats Closed

Canada Day is once again a long weekend this year and there will be plenty to do throughout the city! Here’s some assistance planning out your activities. Nothing’s worse then heading somewhere and finding out it’s closed, so make sure to read the what’s open and what’s closed list carefully.

Shopping/Grocery Stores/Leisure

Manitoba Liquor Marts Friday, July 1: Most open 10:00am – 6:00pm
Winnipeg Casinos Friday, July 1: Open Regular Hours
Polo Park Shopping Centre Friday, July 1: Closed
St. Vital Shopping Centre Friday, July 1: Closed
Kildonan Place Friday, July 1: Closed

Superstore Friday, July 1: Closed

All civic offices are closed on Canada Day, Friday, July 1, 2016.

Recycling/Garbage Collection


Recycling, garbage and yard waste will be collected as normally scheduled on the Canada Day holiday for those with Friday as their collection day.

Brady Road Resource Management Facility (Brady Road Landfill) hours of operation (commercial customers only):

Friday, July 1 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 2 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, July 3 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot is open every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (residential customers only).

Winnipeg Transit

Special Canada Day service includes:

  • A FREE Canada Day Shuttle service will be operating from 12:00 p.m. noon until 12:00 a.m. midnight linking Downtown, The Forks and Osborne Village.
  • Extra Route 11 Portage buses will be operating between The Forks and Assiniboine Park from 12:00 p.m. noon until 11:00 p.m. Regular transit fares apply.

Post-Fireworks departures:

  • The Forks: buses will be available on Main Street between York Avenue and Wesley Avenue.
  • Assiniboine Park to Downtown: buses will be available at eastbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street.
  • Assiniboine Park to St. James/Assiniboia areas: buses will be available at westbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street.
  • Regular transit fares apply.

Leisure Centres

All Leisure Centres will be closed on Friday, July 1. Regular hours of operation resume on Saturday, July 2.

Indoor Pools

All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools will be closed on Friday, July 1.

Outdoor Pools

Weather permitting, all City of Winnipeg outdoor pools will be open Friday, July 1. Operating hours vary by pool. For more information on City of Winnipeg swimming pools visit City of Winnipeg – Outdoor Pools or contact 311.

Wading Pools

Weather permitting, the following 17 wading pools will be open on Friday, July 1:

Spray Pads

Spray pads will be open on Friday July 1 and include the following locations:

Libraries


All Winnipeg Public Libraries will be closed on Friday, July 1. Online services, including downloadable eBooks, catalogue searching, and holds/renewals, are available anytime at City of Winnipeg – Winnipeg Public Library. Animal Services Agency

The Animal Services Agency will be closed on Friday, July 1.

Regular hours of operation are in effect on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3.

Cemeteries

Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be open for visitation from dawn until 9:00 p.m. on Canada Day, Friday, July 1.

Cemetery offices will be closed on Friday, July 1.

Winnipeg Parking Authority

Hours of operation for the Winnipeg Parking Authority during Canada Day are as follows:

Friday, July 1 Closed
Saturday, July 2 Closed (as per regular operating hours)
Sunday, July 3 Closed (as per regular operating hours)
Monday, July 4 Regular hours – 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Golf Courses

Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park Golf Courses will be open every day on the Canada Day long weekend from dawn until dusk, approximately 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
