Canada Day is once again a long weekend this year! There will be plenty to do throughout the city.

Here’s some assistance planning out your activities. Nothing’s worse then heading somewhere and finding out it’s closed, so make sure to read the what’s open and what’s closed list carefully.

All civic offices are closed on Monday, July 1, 2019 for Canada Day.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

Recycling, garbage and yard waste will be collected as normally scheduled on the Canada Day holiday for those with Monday as their collection day.

Winnipeg Transit


On Monday, July 1, Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule.

Special Canada Day service includes:

  • FREE Canada Day Shuttle will operate between The Forks and Osborne Village from noon until 12 a.m.
  • Extra service on Portage Avenue buses will be operating between The Forks and Assiniboine Park from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Regular transit fares apply.

On Monday, July 1, Winnipeg Transit will operate on a modified weekday schedule.

Swimming Pools

Indoor Pools

All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools will be closed on Monday, July 1.

Outdoor Pools

Weather permitting, all City of Winnipeg outdoor pools will be open Monday, July 1. Operating hours vary by pool.

Wading Pools

Weather permitting; the following 8 wading pools will be open on Monday, July 1:

Central Park Dakota Park
Machray Park Shaughnessy Park
Sturgeon Heights CC Vimy Ridge Memorial Park
West Kildonan Memorial CC Westdale

The remaining locations will open Monday, July 1, according to their operating schedules. Operating hours vary by wading pool; however, most are open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Spray Pads
Spray pads will be open on Monday, July 1 and include the following locations:

Central Park Central Corydon – River Heights
Fort Rouge Gateway
Jill Officer Park Lindenwood
Lindsey Wilson Park Machray Park
Park City West Provencher Park
St. James Assiniboia Centennial Pool St. Norbert
Shaughnessy Park Sturgeon Heights

Operating hours for spray pads are 9:30am – 8:30pm.

Library Services


All Winnipeg Public Libraries will be closed on Monday, July 1.

Cemeteries

Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital, and Transcona Cemeteries will be open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. during the Canada Day long weekend, including July 1.

Cemetery offices will be closed on Monday, July 1.

Winnipeg Parking Authority

Saturday, June 29 Closed

Tuesday, July 2 Regular hours – 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Golf Courses

All Municipal Golf Courses will be open every day during the Canada Day long weekend from dawn until dusk, 6 a.m. to sundown.
